Introduction

If you had told asked me what I thought the Bombers would need to do this year to be a true Grey Cup contender I’d have suggested that they would have needed to at least earn a split against Edmonton and Calgary and go 70% against everyone else (which would equate to 11 wins in total – if you do the math, and I love math). Now here we are with 13 games in the books and the Bombers are coming off of a victory in Edmonton (a place they never win) and still have a chance for a split against Calgary. They’ve won the season series against Saskatchewan, have not lost to an Eastern team and are the only team with a chance (albeit a remote one) to catch Calgary for 1st in the West. Pretty heady stuff in Bomberville. By now even the negative nellies and Debbie downers should be looking for a spot on the bandwagon.

Welcome to week seven. Welcome to the Corbett Report.

Montreal 3 11 0 6 262 425

The Bombers still need someone to help them out by beating Calgary if they want to finish first. Not likely to happen but I’m more and more starting to like our chances against the Stamps.

The Bombers

Last week saw a few unusual things that you didn’t see at the start of the season. A solid defensive performance (Thanks Chris Randle) and an 0-3 field goal kicking effort by Justin Medlock. Maybe fitting that the defense, who earlier in the year was often bailed out by their kicker, in turn bailed him out last. Football truly is a team game and that game last week was a real character building effort.

This week the Bombers biggest opponent could very well be lethargy from facing an opponent that is struggling on and off the field. Good thing they’re at home cause I don’t think the Bomber fans will have any of it.

The Ti-cats

Coaching changes, starting QB being benched, questionable recruiting attempts, 10 losses in 13 tries, 35 points against on average. There hasn’t been much to get excited about in the steel city. The team has been in turmoil almost from day 1.

Trouble is, an injured cat is a dangerous cat. Bombers are well advised to not look beyond this team.

Bombers keys to success

  • Justin gets back on his game
  • Defense to get on the Hamilton Offense early
  • Score early and get the crowd into it.

Ti-cats keys to success

  • Score first. This one could get ugly if the Bombers get on a roll
  • Early success for Masoli to gain some confidence
  • Establish a run game

The predictions

Around the league this week:

  • Toronto over Sask at home
  • BC over Ottawa at home
  • Edmonton over Montreal on the road

As for our feature game, this one has the potential of getting ugly. I don’t think it will though:

Winnipeg 36         Ti-Cats 24
