Introduction

Greetings from Tofino! Lots has happened since we last had a home game. Three weeks ago the Bomber were in fifth place and on a 4 game losing streak.  Since then? Three wins in a row and combined with the continued winning ways of the Riders, the surprising meltdown of the Eskimos and the resurgence of the BC Lions and the standings in the west have been turned upside down.  Here’s where we stand going into week 19.

Calgary 24

Sask 20

Winnipeg 16

BC 14

Edmonton 14

The 4th place team will cross over to the East and the 5th place team will be out. Needless to say a Bomber win this weekend would go along way towards avoiding that last scenario.

Welcome to week 19, welcome to the Corbett Report.

The Bombers 8-7

Last week the Bombers barely held on to beat Ottawa in OT. The offense did show some promise though and the defense came up big (aka Bighill) when they needed to forcing an Ottawa fumble in OT. Of the Western teams last weekend they had the best outting! Bombers just may be peaking at the right time.

The Riders (10 – 5)

The Riders won last week but didn’t play like a team on a 7 game winning streak.  Were it not for a last minute pick 6 they’d have lost the game having scored no offensive TDs.  They’ve won some close ones and I don’t think they are worthy of a 10-5 record.

Keys to the game

So with all of that said, here are the keys to the game:

For the Bombers to win

  • Defense needs to continue their ball hawk ways
  • Another big game by Harris
  • Get the lead early

For the Riders to win

  • Rattle Nichols early
  • Score some offense
  • Contain Andrew Harris
