The Corbett Report – Issue 2026-10– October 10, 2026
Bombers vs Stamps
Introduction
What started out as another promising season in Bomberville is quickly turning into, well let’s not overstate it, a disappointing year. A look below at the standings and you’ll see that the Bombers are in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2015. That year, the Bombers finished the season 5-13, and while this year’s edition of the team is nowhere near as bad as that team was, last week’s performance in Montreal does leave one to conclude that this team is in no way capable of making the playoffs or making a playoff run. Let’s be honest, this team does not look like a Grey Cup contender.
Still, this is the CFL where 6 of 9 teams make the playoffs, so despite their mediocre performance this team can still get there. Lose tonight and the season is pretty much done. The best the Bombers can say of 2026 will be, “well, at least we’re not the Redblacks”.
Welcome to week 19, welcome to the Corbett Report.

So many scenarios are coming from the standings this week. One thing’s for certain, a Calgary victory puts them in the playoffs. Bombers, even with a loss, keep alive their hopes for a playoff position but at best it’ll be a crossover.
Bombers
The Bombers come into tonight’s game on a two-game losing streak, their last win being the Banjo Bowl. That game was a lackluster affair that saw the Bombers defeat the Riders 19-6. Since then, neither team has won a game. Both of the Bomber games came with Dru Brown as the starting QB with Zach out with an injury, but it was more than the lack of their starting QB that led to the recent Bombers’ losses. Let’s start (and end, ‘cause there’s so many examples) with a lack of performance in the secondary. Last week, Tyson Philpot caught 11 passes for 207 yards. The total passing yardage for Montreal was 440 yards. Philpot caught passes for more yards than the entire Bomber team (161). Need I go on? Last week, the Bombers looked like a team about to miss the playoffs.
This week, the Bombers get their starting QB back in Zach Collaros. Perhaps that’ll be enough to get some offence and keep the defence off the field for a few plays. Otherwise, it’ll be a long night.
Stamps
Unlike the Bombers, who most “experts” predicted to miss the playoffs, the Stamps were considered by many to be a contender for this year’s Grey Cup. Led by their starting QB Vernon Adams, the Stamps have become an offensive powerhouse in the league (they lead the league with 572 points scored). On defence though, they’ve struggled. With 541 points allowed they’re second only to the lowly Ottawa Redblacks. They’re last or second last (sorry Ottawa) in many defensive categories and it’s their defence that has contributed the most to their disappointing 8-8 record. Still, they come into tonight’s game on a 3-game winning streak (2 of those wins against the aforementioned Redblacks) and with a win can clinch a playoff spot.
The matchup between the Bombers Offence and the Stamps Defence will be the key to this game.
Keys to the game:
For the Bombers to win
- Intercept VA twice
- Pound the Stamps defence with Oliveira
- Secondary needs to improve their play
For the Stamps to win
- Hit a big play early and take the crowd out of it
- Win the turnover battle
- Stop Oliveira’s running
The predictions
Record so far this year: 39 – 30 (Bomber games 8 – 7).
On paper at least, some “gimmes” this week.
Go with
- BC over Ottawa
- Edmonton over Hamilton
- Montreal over Saskatchewan
And
We’ll see which Bomber team shows up tonight. I’m thinking it’ll be the good Bombers.
Bombers 30 Stamps 28
